Alice chose to live in the Clock Tower, wasn't romantically involved with anyone in particular, and the shift to the Country of Clover has happened but they've only had the first assembly.

AU Information

AU Name: Alice Liddell
AU Age: 17
Physical Differences: None
AU History:
Alice was born into a wealthy and influential family in the Red Court's lands. She is the middle child, with an older sister, Lorina. Thier mother died when Alice was young and while her sister took over raising her, their father became distant and cold. His focus shifted to amassing further wealth and influence and his daughters became pawns for that purpose.

Lorina grew up beautiful and charming and had a long line of suitors vying for her hand. Alice... was the other sister. Not as pretty, not as poised, and with entirely too sharp a tongue to be considered charming. To make matters worse, every time a suitor came calling, Lorina would turn them down. Always saying 'But I can't leave. What would Alice do without me?'

Friends and neighbors were split between those who believed that Lorina was a model sister and how sad it is that she's stuck until Alice manages to get her act together and those who believed that Lorina was just using Alice as a way to keep unwanted suitors at bay. Either way it was a wrench in their father's plans.

He was thrilled when by some miracle Alice actually managed to find a boyfriend. He was the son of a merchant family, which could certainly be advantageous from an economic standpoint. But after introducing him to her family he quickly fell for her older sister and broke up with Alice. And then received the same stock rejection from Lorina.

Alice doesn't really hold a grudge about this because, well... who wouldn't want the prettier, more charming sister? So it's fine. Really. If she keeps telling herself that, maybe she'll start to believe it. No, it pretty much wrecked her self esteem.

And, for her father, it was the last straw. He had to get rid of Alice or he was never going to be able to use Lorina's marriage to advance his ambitions. And maybe he can still get some use out of Alice. One well placed bribe later, Alice drew the white feather and was shipped off to the castle. It is worth noting that Alice certainly heard all of the rumors about her father rigging the selection, is pretty sure they're true.

She hopes Lorina will find happiness.

AU Personality: Alice isn't too different from her canon personality. She's still pragmatic, bossy, and stubborn. She is a bit more cynical in this AU due to growing up in a more hostile home environment. (Her father actively disliking her instead of just ignoring her.) She still has immense respect for her sister and a very bad habit of comparing herself to Lorina.

She's also felt much more stifled considering her early life was filled with the expectations of a noble house and then later dealing with being a disappointment to those expectations. And now that she's been removed from that situation it paradoxically has made her a little less pessimistic. Suddenly having agency in her life has given her a reason to be optimistic.

And, mostly owing to a desire to prove to herself that her father was wrong and she is capable of making something of herself, this Alice is going to be much more motivated to succeed. She always worked hard, but it was mostly out of a sense of responsibility. Now there is a small flame of ambition within her. Which could wind up either being fanned or snuffed out.

Novice Information

Starting Season: First
Maker: Lydia (Alice was a foundling but picked up on the TDM)
Anticipated Court: Red

Sooo.... she'd actually do way better in Silver. She's a caregiver by nature and would love to learn and practice healing arts. She's also bookish and enjoys studying. Alice would be so good in the Silver court.

Red is going to be a challenge. She's not too fond of violence and will have to clear that hurdle before she can properly learn to fight. But that will be the easy part. Seduction now, that will be more than a challenge. It will be a disaster. Alice is awkward regarding romance and intimacy and is easily flustered and embarrassed. She's also got self esteem issues aplenty that make it basically impossible for her to imagine anyone being attracted to her. So that should be fun.

Luckily, Alice is pretty adaptable. She'll get there, it'll just be an uphill battle.

CHARACTER
Name Alice Liddell
Canon Alice in the Country of Hearts
Age 17
Birthright Jewel Green
Dreams made flesh A route back to her original world.
Canon point Volume 5, The day after the ball.
Canon Powers Alice has no supernatural powers, so this whole magic thing is going to be very new territory.

Personality
While she does have some natural curiosity, this Alice is a far cry from the one in Carroll's book. She is entirely too practical to chase a strange rabbit down a hole and she certainly isn't about to drink things from weird bottles without some 'persuasion.' She's also fairly cynical, and tends to view strange situations, even positive ones, with a degree of suspicion. Because there is always a catch. She speaks very directly and isn't the type to lie to spare someone's feelings. If she's mad at you, you'll be the first to hear about it. She also doesn't spend too much time fretting about things like the science behind suddenly changing time periods or people turning into animals. Very early on she decides that it's easier if she just views such things as dream logic and moves on with her life.

Alice can be pretty bossy too, admonishing Boris and the Bloody Twins for fighting and playing dangerous games. And in all versions of the canon, she's very stubborn about where she chooses to live, often flatly refusing numerous other offers. And she's very insistent on earning her keep too. Alice has a very strong sense of responsibility and hates to think that she might not be pulling her own weight. Of course, this same sense of responsibility very likely contributes to her lingering guilt regarding her home world. Even with her memories as muddled as they are, she still feels as though she left something undone and it makes it impossible for her to accept her new home entirely.

While pessimistic enough to refer to herself as 'gloomy,' Alice is especially so regarding romance. Her first love broke her heart when he fell for her sister. A sister that Alice freely acknowledges as prettier, kinder, gentler, smarter, and all around better than her. This did nothing positive for her self esteem. Add this to the fact that Alice has a good sense of her own actual faults, such as her bossy nature or her pessimism, and it's only natural that she would expect any decent guy to be able to find someone better than her. So she tends to look at romance in terms of it's potential for emotional turmoil. Naturally, she is not all that keen to have her heart broken again. And it takes a considerable amount of time for anyone to coax her out of this mentality.

So why is she so popular? She generally just chalks it up to her being an 'outsider,' and thus unique in that world. But more likely it's her kind and caring attitude towards others. She gets attached to people fairly easily and expresses genuine concern when they're upset or hurt. This is an especially unusual trait in a world where lives are considered to be unimportant and replaceable. To Alice, life is precious, and no one is replaceable. Ever. While not necessarily the best idea, she can and will step in to try to stop people from hurting each other. She stands in front a messenger that Peter is holding at gunpoint and refuses to move until he backs down. She's also fairly observant when it comes to the emotional and physical state of others. Even after watching him casually murder a dozen people, Alice is quick to recognize that Ace isn't serious when he threatens her. It's tough to hide injuries from her and she's easily able to tell when someone is depressed or upset about something.

History
This canon's time line is fairly murky. Originally an otome game, a lot of events depend on player choice. There's a good description of the basics here.
To make things easier, I'm sticking to the events of the manga, which means Alice lived in the clock tower, made friends with everyone, learned the truth about the residents of Wonderland having clocks for hearts, and attended the ball with Julius and Ace.

[It's been a few days since the 'charity auction' and Alice has a few thoughts. So she's reaching out to her fellow strangers.]

Did anyone else take part in that charity auction last week? They said it was to benefit the less fortunate...

[Alice is doing nothing to diguise the disdain she has for the whole thing.]

Buuut of course the only people involved were the Blood. I saw a few Landen there, but everyone just ignored them. I'm not saying the people who were bidding didn't need our help, and I'm glad we were able to lend a hand, but....

[She pauses here, thinking of that elderly couple. She regrets not walking right off that stage and offering to help them. She'd had reasons of course. Like the fact that the auction was something she'd agreed to, or that making a scene herself would have dragged her partner into it. But still....]

I feel like leaving the Landen out of things like that only widens the gap between them and the Blood. So I've been thinking... what if we organized a new auction? One the Landens can participate in. Would anyone be willing to help out with that?

Character (Original Universe)
Name: Alice Liddell
Age: 17
Gender: Female
Canon: Alice in the Country of Hearts/Clover/Joker/etc.
Canon Point: Shortly after the shift to the Country of Clover.
History:

This canon's time line is fairly murky. Originally an Otome game, a lot of events depend on player choice. In this case, I'm drawing from the manga, but even that gets a little complex. While Country of Hearts is a pretty linear story, the various versions of the Clover time line all assume that Alice decided not to return to her world and hasn't gotten romantically involved with anyone yet. They also vary on where she chose to live. (This is obviously to allow for manga versions of all the different romantic routes, which is fine. But it does make pinning down her history a little tough.) The Joker stuff is practically based on mind games so it's hard to sort any of it out. That said, there's a fairly good description of the basics here.

In this case, I'm sticking mostly to the events of Hearts, with a dash of Clover. Alice lived in the Clock Tower, chose not to return home, and hasn't become romantically involved yet. The country still shifted to Clover, but nothing significant has happened there yet. Luckily, Alice's personality is the same in every version.

Personality:

While she does have some natural curiosity, this Alice is a far cry from the one in Carroll's book. She is entirely too practical to chase a strange rabbit down a hole and she certainly isn't about to drink things from weird bottles without some 'persuasion.' Third-Person Sample:

Alice frowns, staring at the cave wall. The interior is illuminate by patches of green and blue glowing moss. She'd gone to Jessie for a new job, and was more than willing to work for it. You can't expect to get anything for free, after all. Going to this cave and collecting some of the glowing moss seemed simple enough. But Jessie had failed to mention that there were two different kinds. Which color did she want?

'There's two, kupo! What should we do, Alice?'

She turns to her moogle and shrugs. A small problem like this wasn't even worth worrying about. In the end, the solution was simple.

“It's a little annoying she wasn't more specific, but at least I came prepared.”

Alice has no intention of making two trips. She'd actually brought two sample bags in case one got lost or damaged. But this works too. She very carefully fills each bag, one with green, and one with blue. She stows those away in her satchel and smiles.

“Well, mission accomplished. Let's head back.”

Not only does she have a reward to collect, but Alice also wants to take a bath after poking around in a dank cave all day.

Mognet Sample:

To my fellow heroes-

I can't be the only one who's noticed that the moogles have gone on strike. Again. It didn't seem like anyone else was going to do anything about it, so I went to the mognet office.

They want either higher pay or more kupo nuts. I can't give them the first thing, but I can collect some nuts for them. If anyone else is willing to help, I'd appreciate it. The moogles do a lot for us, and we work them pretty hard. I don't think their request is unreasonable. I think it's also helpful for us to remain on their good side.

Sincerely,
Alice Liddell
